Well Tempered House

Tempering light, heat, privacy and security by way of a dynamic facade, this two-storey home is an energy efficient response to a narrow inner-Melbourne site. The renovation and extension has created a healthy, thermally comfortable home that takes advantage of its position on a north-facing laneway to enhance the lifestyles of our clients.

Well Tempered House features intricate extruded brickwork that gives the façade a sense of texture and movement that plays in the light. The perforated sliding screen provides privacy, security and shading, all whilst contributing to an intricate geometry.

Awards Season

Awards season has been kicking into gear! Our director Shae had a great time at the Design Matters National Awards with Marc and Felicity of Melbourne Design Studio and we’re super excited to have picked up a couple of awards…

7 Stars?

Earlier this year, Design Matters National invited our Director, Shae, to participate as a panelist at events in Melbourne and Bendigo entitled “Designing for 7 Stars”. These talks were in response to the updated version of the National Construction Code, due to come into effect May next year, that stipulates all new homes and renovations will be required to reach a minimum 7 Star energy rating.

What does this mean for me and my new home?
Good question. If you’re looking to renovate or build, starting May next year, your new home will require a 7 Star energy rating (up from the previous 6 Star requirement) as assessed by an accredited energy rater...

We’ve been busy cooking up some exciting new designs, here’s a sneak peek….

GSC Diamond Creek
Sat atop a falling slope, this new home takes in views to the regenerated site below. With thermal efficiency being a key driver, the form makes use of passive solar design strategies. The fluidity between indoor and outdoor spaces make for a home that blends into its surroundings.

GSC Sonoma
This renovation-extension project in Northcote is playful in its modern extrapolation of the heritage street front. The red brick walls are carved out by heritage green detailing to reveal a timber cladding. The internal spaces feature detailed timber cabinetry with muted primary colour accents.
